Switch Your DIRECTV DSL
Important - You Must Follow These Directions to Remove Line Sharing
DirecTV DSL is shutting down its network on Jan 16th 2003. You may have seen an email on this. Here is a link to the info: www.directvdsl.com
We at DSLAvailability.com have made arrangements to assist you in getting an alternative DSL service provider.
A condition called "Line Sharing" exists on your telephone line at this time. Line sharing lets a DSL provider put a DSL signal on your phone line. Only one provider may have line sharing on your line at a time. Since DirecTV DSL is using the line sharing at this time no other provider can put a DSL signal on your line until the line sharing condition is removed.
Exceptions to this are if you have a 2nd phone line, which you can use to order new DSL service on, or if you order "business" class SDSL service, which does not use line sharing.
The first step to getting a new provider is to disconnect your DirecTV DSL account online and get line sharing removed. No termination fees will apply. To disconnect go to www.directvinternet.com and enter your username and password and log in to your account. Once logged in go to the contact us link and follow the instructions. You can also check out the FAQ’s.
Assuming these exceptions do not apply to you, DSLAvailability is aware of two options for removing the DirecTV DSL line sharing so that you can order service from another ISP:
1. Request DirecTV DSL disconnect your service, then order from any ISP that can service your location
One option is to request that DirecTV DSL disconnect your service. To make your request, go to www.directvinternet.com, and enter your username ("username"@directvinternet.com) and password to access your account. Once logged in, go to the "Contact Us" link and follow the instructions. Once you have received confirmation that your line has been "released", you can then order with another ISP.
We know that DirecTV DSL has let much of their staff go, and can't suggest how long it may take for them to fulfill your disconnect request. While they have stated they are looking for alternatives, they do not have any yet (read that as "they haven't found another ISP who they can sell your account to), and we would suggest you strongly consider the second option below.
2. Place an order NOW directly with one of the ISPs below
The ISPs listed below have made arrangements with most of the local phone companies that support your DirecTV DSL which will enable them to order you new DSL service and discontinue your current DirecTV DSL service at the same time. This is very important, as it means you can bypass the uncertainty of placing your cancellation request with DirecTV DSL. We will continue to expand this list as we learn of more ISPs that have made similar arrangements.
We have made special arrangements with these DSL providers to help you locate new DSL service. Please select from the following:
